Leonor Colon
Senior Director
International and
Domestic Players Operations for the Major League Baseball Players Association
As a 21 year veteran in the Major League Baseball sports industry, Leonor Colon knows there's infinitely more to baseball than just the game. She is the Senior Director of International and Domestic Players Operations for the Major League Baseball Players Association, and has the distinction of being the only person in the history of the game to work at MLB's central offices, for a Club (New York Mets) and for the Players Association.
Leonor manages the day-to-day issues related to all international and domestic player matters, which includes topics tied to International Entry, International Play, Special Events, Joint Programs with MLB, communications to Players and is currently the lead in opening an office in the Dominican Republic. She has been involved in three rounds of Collective Bargaining including the most recent negotiations that involved a Player Lockout.
Mrs. Colón’s reach isn’t limited to the US. Her role includes the management and oversight of all international events on the baseball schedule on behalf of the Players Association, including the World Baseball Classic (WBC). Leonor also has been featured in the New York Times in an article chronicling her execution of the first-ever Player Good Will Tour to Cuba, an event featuring eight Major League players traveling to Cuba, including four Cuban nationals returning for the first time since their defection. In another first, Leonor negotiated the creation and inclusion of Player Weekend as a feature in the MLB regular season. This fan-centric initiative routinely results in a burst of media attention on the Players’ personalities, which has been shown to increase interest in baseball. She spearheaded the first trip to Colombia with a group of Major League Venezuelan and Colombian Major League players on a mission to give back and honor Colombia for its steadfast support for Venezuelan citizens during its time of crisis. This led to receiving an award from the US Ambassador of Colombia, in recognition of support in the fight against Xenophobia, and in 2021 was chosen by Our Esquina as one of the Top Latino in Sports.
