Paul Scherrman is the President and owner of J. P. Scherrman, Inc., a family owned implement and industrial equipment business founded in 1919 in Farley, Iowa. Paul has been a part of the business, which now employs third- and fourth-generation family members, for 43 years. A devoted baseball player and enthusiast, Paul has held leadership roles both on and off the field.
After graduating from Saint Mary’s University with a BS in Psychology, Paul signed a professional baseball contract with the Washington Senators in 1971 where he played in the Carolina and Western Carolina Leagues as catcher. Following his time with the Senators, Paul returned to Iowa to work at the family business and manage and play with the Farley Hawks semi-pro baseball team—roles he still maintains today.
His passion for baseball took him to the screen when he was cast as a ghost player in the movie Field of Dreams. Following the film’s success, Paul joined the “Ghost Players” traveling around the globe to provide skill and leadership training to children of all ages. He now serves on the Board of Directors for the Team of Dreams Labor Day Event at Field of Dreams. Paul is the Charter President of the Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Semi-Pro Baseball League and a Dubuque County Baseball Hall of Famer. Paul was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives and served three terms from 1997 to 2002 before retiring.
Paul continues to dedicate his time locally and nationally as Chairman of the Iowa Nebraska Equipment Dealers Legislative Committee and as a member of the Equipment Dealers of America Legislative Committee. Paul is honored to serve as member of the Board of Directors for Roberto’s Kids.
Paul is a native of Iowa, where he and his wife of 47 years reside. They have four children.
